Trained advocates answer this emergency, domestic violence hot-line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Advocates are willing to listen and offer support and guidance to callers. Advocates also provide referrals to other appropriate community resources.
The YWCA Gateway House is a secure emergency shelter for women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence. The shelter is staffed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and is equipped with security cameras and an alarm system. Residents are eligible for up to 12 weeks in the shelter and work closely with advocates during their stay.
Weekly support groups are offered at 909 Wyoming Ave. Groups are open to community members and are free of charge. Child Care is provided at no cost for mothers wishing to attend group. Advocates are available to assist survivors in obtaining an Order of Protection from the courts. Accompaniment survices to court hearings relating to domestic violence victimization and Order of Protection hearings are available upon request.
Advocates can provide information about domestic violence and community resources over the phone or in person. They are also able to make referrals to appropriate agencies for further assistance.
