Everyone makes mistakes! Some of us have an easier time than others — learning lessons, making amends and moving on.
Shelly was not having an easier time. Her life had spiraled downward. She had a criminal record and had been evicted more than once for not being able to pay rent. Perhaps with nowhere else to turn, she set up an appointment with our Housing Navigator. Now things are looking up. With YWCA’s support and financial help, Shelly learned how to manage her money. She made a budget and started paying her past owed bills. Best of all she has been able to move into a new place. Moving on for Shelly means that in addition to making amends and taking responsibility she has somewhere to call home whiles she works on getting her life into a better place.
Mistakes aren’t always financial. Sometimes we misjudge the people in our lives. That’s what happened to Rhonda who found herself living in fear for herself and her children because an ex-boyfriend was stalking her. She, too, found our Housing Navigator and was able to find a safe and secure new residence. She successfully applied for a Section 8 housing voucher. Now she and her kids feel safe again. Rhonda can now focus on her family, her work and on healing from her trauma.
These are just two stories of the many lives that have been made easier in rebounding from mistakes when help is found.
